GOLDEN PALM TREE
Malaysia

On the Straits of Malacca, the governement of the state of Selangor commissioned our company for the development of a new resort destination, not far from Kuala Lumpur. At first sight the site was underwelming, and the requirement for a Malaysian “Palm” was far from ideal for the resort we envisionned. Then the 2004 tsunami hit and the investors decided to increase the quantity of villas to almost 400. It was so far from our usual concept of a resort that we almost gave up on the project. We then decided to conceive it through an environment rehabilitation approach. We visited the surrounding villages to involve the population in the activities of the resort, we worked with the local authorities to get the waterways leading to the site cleaned and we ended involved in the resort operation for 2 years after its completion. Maybe architecturally not the best but an incredible human experience. And a project that we can see from the sky everytime we take of from KLIA .
